Statement of Condemnation and Solidarity in Light of Adriana’s Murder

We, at the International Armenian Literary Alliance, strongly condemn the brutal murder of Adriana, an Armenian trans woman on August 21, 2023 in Yerevan – an attack that is not the first of its kind. We reaffirm our commitment to speak against transphobia and queerphobia, and to stand in solidarity with the queer Armenian communities in Armenia and the diaspora in these challenging times when our nation faces multiple threats: war, blockade, and attempted genocide.

As Armenian writers we center the stories of the marginalized to protect their lives and to bolster our whole community’s agency and humanity.
