Nancy Agabian Wins Jeanne Córdova Prize for Lesbian/Queer Nonfiction

Activist, writer, teacher, literary organizer and IALA board member Nancy Agabian has won Lambda Literary’s Jeanne Córdova Prize for Lesbian/Queer Nonfiction. The award, named after the esteemed author and activist, honors lesbian/queer authors who write with great depth and complexity about the lesbian/queer experience, including life, history, and culture.

Nancy Agabian is the author of Princess Freak: Poetry and Performance Texts, Beyond Baroque Foundation Publications, 2000). Her second book, Me as Her Again: True Stories of an Armenian Daughter, (Aunt Lute Books, 2008) recounts her restoration with her conventional Armenian American family by braiding narratives about the women in her family, including an account of the ways she engages in heated debates about race and sexuality with her parents and grandmother. It is the first memoir written by a bisexual Armenian-American, and was a finalist for a Lambda Literary award in the LGBT nonfiction category and shortlisted for a William Saroyan International Prize.
