Four years in the making, J.P. Der Boghossian launched the Queer Armenian Library, a first-of-its-kind collection of literature, film, and artwork written by and about Queer Armenians.

Visitors can search the library by category or keyword. They can also submit their own work or let J.P. know about work that should be featured in the Library.

It’s not just in the U.S. or Armenia that Queer writers are publishing their work. Recently, a new visitor let me know there is a Russian web-series that has a Queer Armenian lead character.

Every page on the website includes a synopsis, as well as video interviews, podcasts, or photos of the writers and artists, if they are available. Film trailers are included for the feature and short films.

There Library’s contents span the 20th and 21st centuries, from the world’s first science fiction novel that featured a positive romance between Lesbians, all the way through 2020.

J.P told the Sahan Journal:

There was that relief when you finally read somebody saying what you’ve been thinking,” he said. “You feel heard, you feel represented for the first time in writing.”

The Library will be updated on an on-going basis with new material. As a IALA Board Member, J.P. looks forward to collaborating with IALA’s Queer Literature Department to promote Queer Armenian writers, filmmakers, artists, and musicians.
