On the one-year anniversary of the publication of her poetry collection The Moon in the Cusp of My Hand, the Nueva York Poetry Review has published a selection of Lola Koundakjian’s poems in English and Spanish to kick off Nueva’s series to feature Armenian poets throughout 2021. This partnership between Nueva and Koundakjian is a testament to Koundakjian’s career championing Armenian poets. Nueva will feature Shahé Mankerian in February and Lory Bedikian in March. Stay tuned to the Nueva’s website for upcoming Armenian poets.

For over 25 years, Koundakjian has organized evenings dedicated to the Dead Armenian Poets’ Society, and since 2006 has produced and edited text and audio, and translated for the multi-lingual Armenian Poetry Project.

The Moon in the Cusp of My Hand is Koundakjian’s third volume of poetry. Her poems have appeared in journals and websites such as: alpialdelapalabra, Armenian Poetry Project, The Literary Groong, Blood and Thunder, Crime Poetry Weekly, Poetas Siglo XXI, and Mediterranean Poetry.

When you and I

are in the ground,

this will be

a different world.

We will be in the

ultimate sacred space —

not the temporary one

I have today
